Lăpuş Village Museum Collection - Ruoaia Monastery

Căminul-spital pentru minori irecuperabili de la Sighetul Marmației a fost înființat în 1973 și închis în 2003. Clădirea a fost proiectată special pentru a găzdui și îngriji 200 de copii, considerați de către statul român irecuperabili (deși unii dintre ei erau perfect sănătoși).  În cei 30 de ani de funcționare, 738 de copii au fost închiși în spatele gratiilor din respectiva clădire, 279 din ei murind aici și fiind înhumați în Cimitirul Săracilor ori lângă Groapa de Gunoi a municipiului. Dintre supraviețuitori, puțini pot depune mărturie, dar câțiva au reușit să fie intervievați, declarațiile lor fiind disponibile pe platformele sociale asociate muzeului (paginile de Facebook și Instagram). Unul dintre primele muzee interactive virtuale din țară, aflat încă în lucru, Muzeul Abandonului este un proiect unic în spațiul românesc, care vizează cartografierea culturii abandonului în România și dorește să ofere spațiu de exprimare celor a căror traumă colectivă nu a fost niciodată cu adevărat recunoscută și discutată public: sutele de mii de copii abandonați atât în anii comunismului, cât și în istoria recentă a țării noastre (cunoscuți sub numele de ”orfani”). Acest muzeu, virtual se adaugă celorlalte două complexe muzeale majore, existente fizic în Sighetu Marmației: Memorialul Victimelor Comunismului, respectiv, Muzeul Maramureșean, unde sunt înregistrate și expuse mărturii despre alte două tragedii imense care au lovit în cursul secolului XX: dictatura comunistă și Holocaustul împotriva evreilor.   *Text: Teofil Ivanciuc

The Museum of Nobility proposes a unique glimpse into the world of personalities who have honored this region. The center's library houses historical maps, Royal Diplomas, family trees, but also other period documents, all telling for the past of Maramureș County.

The museum was inaugurated in 2011 and is set up in a preserved traditional Jewish house. The "Elephant House", a testimony of the Jewish community in the area, showcases objects in a unique library-café. 

Habra Monastery is located on the border of Groşi township and is dedicated to the "Resurrection of the Lord". Documented for the first time in 1604, the monastery closed its doors a decade later due to the support that the Romanian clergy gave to the ruler Michael the Brave (Mihai Viteazul). After centuries of believers perpetuating the legends born around the monastery, in 1990 the custom of Easter pilgrimage was resumed on the site of the former settlement, and then it was decided to rebuild the monastery. The architecture of the edifice was inspired by the model of Cozia Monastery, but with more modest dimensions.

The Baia Mare Edible Chestnut Tree Nature Reserve is a protected area of ​​national interest, located on the administrative territory of Baia Mare Municipality and the towns of Baia Sprie and Tăuții Măgherăuș. This Reserve, which covers about 500 hectares, includes areas populated with edible chestnuts, a tree strongly linked to the history of Baia Mare, first recorded in a document back in 1642. This protected area reveals to visitors the most beautiful natural spectacles in the months of June and October.

The Cornu Nedeii - Ciungii Bălăsinii protected area is part of the Maramureș Mountains Natural Park. Covering an area of ​​500 hectares, the reserve includes mountain slopes eroded by water, springs, valleys, cliffs, glacial basins, but also junipers, pastures and forests. The protected area also includes specimens of black grouse (lat. Lyrurus tetrix).

The "Izvorul Bătrâna" hydro-geological reserve is a protected area established around the spring that has its starting point in the Bătrâna Valley. Here, the waters of the Măgura creek made their way through the rocky walls, giving rise to some particularly beautiful waterfalls. The protected area covers ​​half a hectare, and is located in the eastern part of the Rodna Mountains. 

Located within the Izvoare Plateau in the Gutâi-Igniș Mountains, the protected area overlaps the confluence of the Vlășinescu creek and river, giving rise to an area of ​​oligotrophic marshes, conducive to the development of flora and fauna specific to peat lands. Extremely generous, scientifically and in terms of scenery, the reserve is located at an altitude of 870 m, in a natural setting reminiscent of fairy tales.

The Bavna Forest Reserve is a protected area where, over a wooded area, one finds special specimens of pedunculate oak, some of which are over 150 years old. During the summer time, rare migratory bird species, such as the gray heron, find shelter in this area. An equally impressive natural spectacle can be admired here in the spring time, when the snake's head fritillary (Fritillaria meleagris) blooms, a species declared a monument of nature.
