Antonela Ciocan is a craftswoman from Ungureni, Maramureș County, who specializes in creating ornaments specific to the Land of Lăpuș. With great skill and imagination, she continues the tradition of weaving the famous belts, necklaces and other traditional beaded ornaments. Dana Dobrai is a folk craftswoman from Ungureni, Maramureș County, who specializes in creating folk costumes specific to the Land of Lăpuș. With a lot of dedication, she continues the tradition of homemade linen shirts, sewn with brightly colored flowers and multicolored aprons. She also weaves beads into belts, aprons and vests for folk costumes. She also sews towels and tablecloths with motifs from the Land of Lăpuș. She organizes sittings in her open workshop in her parents' house in Ungureni, where she is willing to teach all those who wish to know the secrets of warping, weaving and sewing. Dan Avram is a folk craftsman from Băiuț, Maramureș County, who carves in wood the most diverse objects, from fruit bowls and vases, to glass miniatures. Also, our craftsman makes wood inlays and sculpts the most original faces of Moroșeni (people from Maramureș). Daniel Leș, the potter from the heart of Maramureș, nicknamed "the last Dacian", lives simply, with love for people, nature and God, where else if not in the Potter's House; a welcoming place, with an ever-open gate, where people are welcome to rest their minds and souls, but also to learn about the mystery of clay sculpting.    In Daniel Leș's workshop the age of technology just slips away while the craftsman sits at the wheel, always dressed in a traditional shirt, after having offered you delicious dishes and the harshest local brandy (horincă). And as the clay comes to life in his hands, the potter tells the story of his apprenticeship. For him the clay is living matter, the clay is holy, the clay is God’s raw material. For this reason he sculpts the clay with intense passion and with immense gratitude. Known throughout the world for his unique artistic vision, the potter has won many awards and has exhibited his artworks in major museums around the world, participated in fairs and exhibitions to promote traditional culture both at national and international level, and TV stations need appointment to film in his magic workshop. Proud to keep alive an ancestral tradition and eager to share his talent and craft with anyone willing to learn, Daniel Leș organizes pottery camps. In order to convey his love for Maramureș to his disciples, they are housed in refurbished traditional houses, which are almost 300 years old. Dumitru Pop Tincu is a folk craftsman who laughs at death. He carries on the craft of Stan Ioan Pătraș (sculptor, painter and poet), who laid the foundations of the Merry Cemetery in Săpânța. The Maramureș craftsman carves crosses in oak wood, using the famous "Săpânța blue" painting - the funerary monuments in the Merry Cemetery. He also writes the epitaphs on the crosses, drawing inspiration from the lives of the dead, after thorough documentation. As a sign of gratitude for the promotion of the culture and crafts of Maramureș, the Maramureș County Council awarded the folk craftsman Dumitru Pop Tincu the honorary title of "Ambassador of Maramureș Tourism". She skillfully carries on the tradition of necklace weaving and other traditional beaded ornaments, with archaic symbols specific to Maramureș, such as: sun, rope, Northern star, honeycomb, shepherd's hook, wheat ear, whirlpool and rake, each piece being unique and elegant. Florin Teleptean is a folk craftsman from Sighetu Marmației, Maramureș County, who dedicated his life to promoting the traditional craft of woodworking. This folk craftsman is famous for the unique decorative objects that were created by his skilled hands: fruit bowls, choppers, various holders for jewelry, candles and spices, key chains and trinkets. Gheorghe Mihuț is a folk wooden sculptor from Șurdești, Maramureș County, who specializes in making glass miniatures. Gheorghe Popovici is a folk craftsman from Vadu Izei, Maramureș County, who dedicated his life to promoting Romanian traditions and crafts. A folk craftsman is famous for the care with which he makes decorative objects: statuettes representing authentic Moroşeni (people from Maramureş), dowry boxes, fruit bowls, masks and gates from Maramureș. In addition, he carves household items: ladles, wooden spoons, ladles, from one piece of wood. Also, many of the pieces of traditional furniture from the guesthouses in the area bear the signature of this craftsman. All his works include the archaic symbols specific to Maramureș, such as: the sun, the rope, the honeycomb and the coil. His art is appreciated all over the world, from Portugal, Germany and France to Cape Verde. Gheorghe Roman is a folk craftsman from Bârsana who makes traditional Maramureș opinci (peasant footwear) with straps, made of cowhide. The traditional shoes, called "opinci", are an essential element of folk costumes in all ethnographic areas of Maramureș and are worn over white wool knitted socks. Gheorghe Roman is a very active folk craftsman, who gladly participated in all the editions of the Fair “Goodies of Maramureș” (Bun de Maramureș), as well as in other local or national events for the promotion of the traditional culture of Maramureș. Gheorghe Uță is a folk craftsman from Buciumi, Maramureș County, who carries on the craft of manufacturing straw hats. With great care and skill he weaves straw hats for the folk costumes from the Land of Chioar, the Land of Maramureș, the Land of Lăpuș and the Land of Codru. Ileana Bizău is a traditional craftswoman from Bogdan Vodă, Maramureș County, who specializes in making folk costumes specific to the ethnographic area called "the Land of Maramureș". She continues the tradition of homemade linen shirts with macramé lace and multicolored flowers. She also weaves the famous traditional Maramureș aprons (zadie moroșenească), in red and black or yellow and black, as well as the flowery skirts always matched with the headscarves. With a lot of love, she perpetuates the tradition of the fabric corset with lace patterned from cut embroidery, in the shape of flowers or dumplings, and sewn only with white thread, each piece being unique. She also weaves beads, aprons and vests into folk costumes, as well as towels and tablecloths, with the most beautiful brightly colored flowers. Maria Georgeta Iuga paints icons on glass in the traditional Maramureș style, using colors obtained from natural pigments. In love with the art of wood since childhood, the folk craftsman Nicolae Șerban began his career with works representing the Maramureș peasant with his traditions, customs and holidays. His works have been classified as naive art and are won numerous prizes.  In order to participate in fairs and exhibitions to promote traditional culture, the folk creator began to make wooden works for domestic and pastoral use, as well as objects of worship: spoons, salt shakers, spindles, stools, buckets, seals, icons, crucifixes. He completed his artistic mission when he began to create monumental works, both fine art and folk art, becoming famous for the Maramureș gates and crosses, on which he sculpts motifs specific to the area: rope, tree of life, starry symbols, Christian symbols, zoomorphic symbols, avimorphic symbols, etc.  Nicolae Șerban studies and listens to the wood, and the forms of the works of art that come to life in the hands of the craftsman are decided together and are always unique. Olga Keller is a folk craftswoman from Baia Mare, Maramureș County, who manufactures leather goods. She has dedicated her life to promoting Romanian traditions and crafts. The leather craftswoman is famous for the care and creativity with which she combines traditional motifs with modern designs on bags, purses and belts. She also makes custom covers for books and diaries or bookmarks and other unique leather accessories. Petru Codrea is a folk woodcarver from Valea Stejarului, Maramureș County, who specializes in making Maramureș gates, crosses and summer altars for churches. Former apprentice of the famous Moș Pupăză, Petru Codrea has quite a difficult mission. He continues the work of his predecessor, keeping the tradition of woodworking, doing both monumental works, as well as household and decorative objects. The folk craftsman, Petru Codrea, participated in national and international fairs together with the Maramureș County Council. Among his most representative works we mention the Maramureș Gate in front of the Administrative Palace in Baia Mare, the crucifix in the Village Museum in Baia Mare. Reghina Cozma is a folk craftswoman from Rogoz, a village belonging to the town of Târgu Lăpuș, Maramureș County. She is master in egg-painting. She does this with beeswax and with the help of a tool called a "chișiță" (traditional pen). The colors used are vegetable colors, obtained from various plants and fruits. Rodica Sabadîș is a folk craftswoman from Remetea Chioarului, Maramureș County, who specializes in creating ornaments specific to the Land of Chioar. Over the years, she has carried on the tradition of necklace weaving and other traditional bead ornaments. Her creations bear archaic symbols specific to Maramureș, such as: the sun, the rope, the Northern star, the honeycomb, the shepherd's hook, the wheat ear, the whirlpool and the rake, thus offering uniqueness and elegance to each piece. Rodica Sabadîș is a very active folk craftswoman, who gladly participated in all the editions of the Good Fair of Maramureș, as well as in other local or national events for the promotion of the traditional culture of Maramureș. Ștefan Fărcaș is a folk woodcarver from Cavnic, Maramureș County, who, after retiring from mining, dedicated his life to promoting traditions. With skill and patience as a watchmaker, he carves miniature jewelry in wood: traditional houses, churches, water mills, fountains and gates from Maramureș. However, the master's strengths are handcrafted bottles inside which are assembled ornaments such as: the Dacian knot, the spindle and the ladder. His artwork found its way to France, Belgium, Ukraine, Canada, the United States and the United Arab Emirates. Ștefan Fărcaș is a very active folk craftsman, who gladly participated in all the editions of the Fair “Goodies of Maramureș” (Bun de Maramureș), as well as in other local or national events for the promotion of the traditional culture of Maramureș. Tănase Burnar este olarul care duce mai departe ”ceramica de Săcel”. Meșteșugul l-a învățat de la tatăl său, ale cărui lucrări sunt expuse în muzee din întreaga lume.  Pentru a lustrui vasele roșii, ceramistul folosește unealta tradițională: piatra. Lucrările sale pot fi folosite atât pentru uz casnic, cât și pentru decor. IN MEMORIAM Toader Bârsan was a folk woodcarver from Bârsana who made Maramureș famous and this fame even reached the Smithsonian Museum in Washington. He later carved a Maramureș gate there, through which Bill Clinton, the then President of the United States, passed. For the sculptor from Bârsana, a true Maramureș gate cannot but have the tree of life. The rope, the coil and the sun are tied to it. The honeycomb and the fish must also be found here. Toader Bârsan is the kind of craftsman for whom wood carving is an art. In the workshop in his house, he works with his son to whom he passed on his love for woodcarving. As a sign of gratitude for the promotion of the culture and crafts of Maramureș, the Maramureș County Council awarded the folk craftsman Toader Bârsan the honorary title of "Ambassador of Maramureș Tourism". Toader Bârsan passed away in January 2022. Vasile Chira is a folk craftsman who keeps alive the craft of pottery in his workshop in Cărbunari; a fairytale-space workspace where clay takes shape and color. In the over 20 years in which he trained as a ceramic artist, he managed to create "Transylvanian pottery", recognizable by the specific shapes, motifs and colors of the clay objects. As a sign of gratitude for the promotion of the culture and crafts of Maramureș, the Maramureș County Council awarded the popular craftsman Vasile Chira the honorary title of "Ambassador of Maramureș Tourism". Vasile Șușca is a folk craftsman from Săcel, Maramureș County, whose traditional masks have become known all over the world. A former fur tailor, Vasile Șușca taught himself how to make masks from fur and wool scraps. The first masks he created were for Viflaim, a folk theater whose tradition is sacredly preserved in Maramureș, being staged even in churches, on Christmas Day. The archaic masks made by the folk artist only out of natural materials, are meant to ward off evil spirits and are used in various pre-Christian rituals, still practiced today. However, his masks are some of the most ingenious decorative objects, and the best known are the old men, the old women, the goat and the bear. In addition to creating traditional masks, he also paints wooden icons and landscapes.
